Idiots Don’t Take Notes – Leadership Freak

Idiots Don’t Take Notes

You had a brilliant thought and like an idiot didn’t write it down.

The opportunity to record a brilliant idea is the time between a lightning flash and the thunder that follows. If you hear the thunder and don’t take notes, the thought-gods take back their gift.

Your brilliant thought didn’t die. It drifted into the atmosphere looking for someone with respect.

People who respect ideas take notes.

A billionaire can take notes:

The founder of the Virgin Group, Richard Branson, takes notes. Did I mention he’s a billionaire?

“I urge everybody to take notes, whatever they are doing, wherever they are going. It doesn’t matter what form they take – laptops and phones are better than nothing – but I prefer a pen and paper.”

Fools hear wisdom and say, “I knew that.”

Wisdom feels familiar when you hear it. When you hear something interesting write it down, even if it feels familiar.

Branson says, “Become a great listener. Get out there and ask people questions and write down the answers.”

A genius poet wrote notes:

Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman are the two leading 19th century American poets. Some consider Dickinson to be the greatest American poet of all time. She published 10 poems in her lifetime. All were published anonymously. She actually wrote about eighteen hundred poems.

Dickinson respected ideas. It seems she wrote down in the moment. Scraps of paper, envelopes, even the wrapper of cooking chocolate have partial or complete poems on them.

Keep your pen handy. You never know when an idea might pop in.

One of the most successful British business leaders and one of America’s greatest poets captured thoughts with notes.

Take out your pen today.

What note taking strategies do you use?

This Belief About Time And Money Makes You Happier

Time or money, which do you prioritise?

Putting greater value on your time than your money is linked to more happiness, a study finds.

Slightly over half of the participants in the study valued their time over their money.

The remainder valued their money over their time.

The conclusions come from six studies with over 4,600 people.

Ms Ashley Whillans, who led the research, said:

“It appears that people have a stable preference for valuing their time over making more money, and prioritizing time is associated with greater happiness.”

The older people were, the more likely they were to value their time.

Ms  Whillans said:

“As people age, they often want to spend time in more meaningful ways than just making money.”

People were given a series of scenarios that pitted time against money.

For example, they were asked to choose between having a more expensive apartment and shorter commute or cheaper apartment and longer commute.

Or, they were asked: would you choose a job with longer hours and higher starting salary or lower hours and lower starting salary.

While both of these are major decisions for most people, the time/money split also held for more everyday decisions.

Neither people’s income nor gender affected whether they were more swayed by time or money.

However, people at the very bottom end of the income spectrum were not included in the research.

Some people may have to prioritise money in order to survive.

Ms  Whillans said:

“Having more free time is likely more important for happiness than having more money.

Even giving up a few hours of a paycheck to volunteer at a food bank may have more bang for your buck in making you feel happier.”

The study was published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science (Whillans et al., 2015).

How to be an Industry Leader on TikTok

Becoming an industry leader on Tiktok will benefit your business in many ways; as a matter of fact, your marketing growth starts there. As a business owner, knowing what your competitors are yet to learn and delivering tons of valuable and workable information is a step to becoming an authority in your niche and building brand loyalty.

Undoubtedly, TikTok has become one of the most used social media platforms in America, and more businesses are pitching a tent for their businesses here. With this development, you must position yourself as an industry leader so your audience can troop to your page for valuable content.

So, since you are geared toward becoming an industry leader on TikTok, let’s explore what I’ve discovered and implemented to achieve this in my niche.

Tips on becoming an industry leader on Tiktok

1. Identify your business goals.

Streamlining your business goals is the first step to success in every marketing game. So, what are your plans for industry leadership on TikTok?

  • Be precise about the goals: For example, I want to be specific with reaching as many business owners as possible and giving them workable tips to grow on TikTok.
  • Analyze and measure the results: To ensure your goals are converting, you can get a TikTok business account that allows you to measure your analytics. You can see how many people visited and engaged with your content and their overall behavior.
  • How relevant are these goals? If your set goals are irrelevant to your business and niche, they won’t convert. So, the plans must be relatable and attainable to your business.
  • Post consistently. If you want to be seen as an industry leader in your niche, you have to post consistently and on time. You can schedule posts in advance to make this easier.

2. Get immersed in TikTok.

Don’t stay on the sidelines; dive into TikTok and see what other marketers are doing and what is working. I would spend hours watching video after video to see different types of content in my niche and also note the audience’s interaction. How can you find them? Search this page or type in your niche on the Tiktok search bar, and they will pop up. Every social media platform is a class for learning many things. I have had other coaches or entrepreneurs leave free tips in the comment section of my posts. This is great information that I don’t ignore, and I use them to enrich my content and stay on top of the game in the industry.

3 Ways to Respond to Failure: Get a Bigger Nail

3 Ways to Respond to Failure: Get a Bigger Nail

Stephen King hung rejection notices on a nail when he was a kid. When he turned 17, the nail fell out because of all the rejections he’d received.

What did he do with failure? He got a bigger nail.

Your most powerful stories are about overcoming failure. Image of a man sitting on a pole.Your most powerful stories are about overcoming failure. Image of a man sitting on a pole.

3 ways to respond to failure: Get a bigger nail.

#1. Know failure isn’t the end.

Failure is the soft underbelly of success.

Dr. Seuss tried to sell his first children’s book 27 times. He was on his way home to burn it when he ran into a college friend who just started a job with a publisher. The rest is history.

Beatrix Potter couldn’t find a publisher for The Tale of Peter Rabbit. She published it herself. It has sold about 45 million copies.

Literary Hub reports that Stephen King’s first novel, Carrie, was rejected 30 times.

King trashed his first draft of Carrie. His wife found it, unwrinkled it, read it, and told him to keep writing. Carrie sold for a $2,500 advance. It was published in 1974. He was 27 years old.

King has written 64 novels and sold about 350 million books. He’s worth over 500 million today.

#2. Hug failure; don’t push it away.

Your most powerful stories are about overcoming failure.

You won’t enjoy failing; own it anyway. The alternative to owning failure is blame. Blame guarantees you stay the same.

Tell your friends what’s hanging on your nail. You reject yourself when you push away your own stories.

The difference between success and defeat is response. Image of a person bursting up through the water. The difference between success and defeat is response. Image of a person bursting up through the water.

#3. Adopt a next-time approach.

The difference between success and defeat is response.

  1. Commit to the one-more-try principle.
  2. Notice what isn’t working. Don’t repeat self-defeating behaviors.
  3. Adopt a do-differently approach. What will you do differently next time?

The more you try, the more you fail – until you don’t.

The alternative to failing is dying slowly.

What’s your advice to people who fail?

Understanding Hashtags on TikTok – DigitalMarketer

tiktok hashtags keenya kellytiktok hashtags keenya kelly

TikTok hashtags work differently when compared to  Instagram and Facebook. On TikTok, hashtags help get you discovered by your ideal audience, help you find your community and can increase your reach.

Since the workings of hashtags on TikTok are unique, you need to understand how the algorithm deals with hashtags and how you can use them to build a business on TikTok.

Let’s explore TikTok hashtags, why they matter and how you can use them for the best results.

Why do hashtags matter on TikTok?

Like Twitter, Instagram, and other social media, hashtags help brands and individuals gain more visibility. With hashtags on your post, they automatically show up on feeds where those hashtags are searched for or where they are trending.

When used right, hashtags can increase your following in no time and help you discover more leads for your business. Indeed, hashtags helped my brand pop up on the fyp on TikTok more often, and with these discoveries, I have more profile visitors who became followers because I met their needs. So, just like Twitter, Instagram, and other social media, hashtags increase visibility.

However, there are more perks to these features and a good understanding of how Tiktok hashtags work will be beneficial.

Benefits of hashtags you should know

  1. They help you find your audience.

When you use a particular hashtag, TikTok automatically shows your video to people who have used that hashtag in the past or interacted with posts with the hashtag. Also, using a particular hashtag draws in the associated traffic on that hashtag to your page. For example, if you use the #naturalhair on any of your posts, TikTok shows this post to people who are searching for this hashtag or posting with it. This way, it sort of builds a community around the hashtag and sends your desired audience your way. This is why you must choose your hashtags carefully as you don’t want the algorithm driving the wrong audience your way. Apart from helping your brand pop up in search results, as I mentioned earlier, these niche hashtags are a great aid in boosting your profile and content.

  1. Helps you study your competition.

I always recommend studying your competitors because they remain a source of business inspiration. When you use a brand-oriented hashtag, you will see related products show up in feeds and you can use this information to find your competition. With this discovery, you can visit their profile and see what strategies you can tweak for your audience.

  1. Helps you find your community.

Apart from getting you discovered, Tiktok hashtags helped me find a community for my business. From the followers sharing your content, you will be found by a pool of influencers, users, and…
